ISNT THE SEA REALLY COLD?
This depends on the time of year, as all lessons include equipment you will be issued with a wetsuit, boots, gloves and hood as required. Keeping you nice and warm!
WHAT HAPPENS IF THE SURF IS NOT SUITABLE ON THE DAY MY LESSON IS SCHEDULED?
If the surf is not suitable the lesson will be re-scheduled, refunded or a gift
card issued. See Terms and Conditions for further details.
IS ALL EQUIPMENT INCLUDED?
Yes, all you need to bring swim wear and a changing robe or towel!
Troggs Surf School has brand new Alder Surf Boards, winter 5/3mm Wetsuits, Booties, Hoods and Gloves.
ARE SHOWER AND CHANGING FACILITIES INCLUDED?
No. Changing and showering facilities are available to book for Corporate bookings.
DO I NEED TO BE ABLE TO SWIM?
Ability to swim is essential for safety reasons especially when paddle boarding. However we only go out to waist depth during surf lessons.
DO YOU OFFER MORE ADVANCED LESSONS FOR THOSE WHO CAN ALREADY SURF?
Yes, our coaches are highly qualified experienced surfers who offer lessons which introduce advanced surfing skills and professional coaching at all levels through our 1-1 lessons.
HOW OLD DO I NEED TO BE?
We take students from age 8 upwards, those under 18 need parent/guardian consent on booking. Please see our policies for further details.
WHAT IF I HAVE A MEDICAL ISSUE, CAN I STILL TAKE PART?
Please contact us prior to booking regarding any medical conditions or concerns about your health.
WHAT ARE YOUR TEACHING RATIOS?
We operate according to ISA guidelines: 8:1 Ratio
HOW MANY LESSONS ARE RECOMMENDED?
We recommend 2 lessons for a beginner, if you enjoy these and wish to progress, you’re surfing to a level where you feel confident to continue practising surfing on your own then 6 lessons are advisable. We also offer advanced levels of coaching. Personal fitness, surfing goals, time, budget and commitment all play a role regarding the number of lessons required.
DO YOU HAVE A CHILD PROTECTION POLICY?
Yes, our staff are trained in relation to teaching children, hold a Safeguarding qualification and an Access NI Enhanced Disclosure certificate. Please see our policies for details.
ARE THE INSTRUCTORS QUALIFIED?
Yes, all our coaches are qualified. They will have a minimum Irish Surfing Association (ISA) Level 1 Surf Coaching Accreditation. All the coaches are qualified Beach Lifeguards and hold First Aid certifications. This is an integral part to gaining full Surf Coach status.
The team of coaches are handpicked and we are confident that we have some of the premier staff in the UK. As well as being excellent coaches, we also insist that our instructors have surfed themselves for at least 4 years. This ensures good ocean knowledge which is a very important part of learning to surf.
DO I NEED TO BOOK?
Yes, strict coaching ratios are in place so booking is required in advance to ensure these are met, If space is available we can accommodate walk in bookings!
